What's Not In Zincredible

We left out a lot of irritate-y ingredients commonly used in SPF.

Not because we’re super earnest purity heroes. Not because we like bragging about how clean all our stuff is (I mean, we do but that’s not relevant right now). But because we want you to rest easy when using every Go-To product.

Truthfully, we just reckon that using beneficial, skin-loving ingredients is the way to go. It’s as simple as that. Products that are clean. That are safe. That are suitable for all skin types. And that are not gonna piss your skin off.

So! Here’s what didn’t make the cut in Zincredible and why:

Chemical UV filters

The most common UV filters, and probably the kind you’re currently using.

Obviously, any UV protection is better than none. But, we had a lot of good reasons to keep these non-mineral, synthetic active ingredients out of Zincredible.

Chemical UV filters are a common cause of photoallergic contact dermatitis and have been known to trigger heat-induced pigmentation and an increased chance of redness for rosacea-prone skin.

And in Oxybenzone’s case, can also come with an increased chance of hormonal disruption and coral reef degradation. Ick.

Chemical UV filters also aren’t considered fully photostable, which is science talk for: they can break down over time and leave your skin susceptible to UV damage.

Common chemical UV filters: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octinoxate.

The slippery, synthetic polymers that you often find in your primer, makeup, hair care. These are super common because they make cosmetics feel and look nice on the skin.

There’s no safety reason to avoid silicones, but we excluded them for a lot of other Very Good Reasons:

    • They trap dirt/grime in your pores (which can cause congestion and or dry/dull skin)
    • They’re a barrier! So they can prevent further moisture getting into the skin
    • They’re a big NO for people with acne, rosacea and dermatitis
    • They prevent the penetration of any skin care ingredients applied after them
    • They slow down skin cell renewal
    • They leave residue, are hard to remove, and usually needing double-cleansing
  • Finally, they’re synthetic, and all Go-To products are free of synthetics.

Common silicones: Dimethicone, Methicone, Trimethicone, Cyclomethicone.

Go-To is made with clean, nutrient-rich botanicals and minerals. And that’s it. Which means synthetics (of all kinds) are always gonna be a no for us. Sure, it adds years onto product development, but we reckon it’s worth taking the long road, to get to the best possible products.

The usual suspects

You also won’t find any parabens, PEGs, sulfates (SLS/SLES), GMOs, mineral oils, petrolatum, synthetic colours in Zincredible, or any Go-To products for that matter. This is ‘cos they’ve been known to cause skin sensitivity and irritation. Plus, they have zero skin care benefit, so they’ve got no place in our line-up.

Bottom line, we wanted a completely clean daily moisturiser with SPF and antioxidants, that doesn’t, you know, suck. And now we’ve got it. And so do you! You’re so welcome.
