Go-To HQ is crammed with beauty fiends. So, I forced them all to pick their very best beauty discovery from this last year. The game-changers. The must-haves. The desert-island-status stuff. Enjoy! Or else!
“Skip-care! Rather than a product, I’ve found skipping the actives, peels or new-fangled things to be a real revelation. Less is very much more when it comes to my perpetually particular skin (read: seriously sensitive). I’ve stopped any tricky face routines and focused on cleansing, SPF, and moisturiser with a treat or two chucked in when my face demands it. (Looking at you clay masks and glow-boosting Transformazings periodically.)”
Emily, Social Media and PR Executive
“Kosas! It might sound like I’m cheating by picking a whole brand but that’s only because I am. Okay, fine, in the interest of fairness, my top pick is probably their Lipfuel Hyaluronic Lip Balm in the shade Rush. It’s hydrating, comfortable, and has the perfect sheer wash of colour for everyday. It’s basically the only colour I wear on my lips anymore. (Huge for someone who carries five lip products around with them at all times.)”
Megs, Content Manager
"I bought this Bite Beauty Multistick in the height of covid. When I needed something (anything) to quickly make me look alive for Zoom meetings. One solution for bronzing lips, cheeks and eyes sounded perfect. It's become my make-up MVP for days when I CBF. (Every Sunday.)"
Alice, Gro-To Marketing Executive
“Niacinamide is without a doubt my favourite find in 2020. My fussy, rudely sensitive skin had just about called it quits before meeting this wonder. It’s one of those magical ingredients that works both instantly and over time; calming, hydrating, and brightening (my freckles). I really like this Super B Complex serum from ASAP, and I keep at least one backup at-the-ready. It’s that good.”
Georgia, Marketing and Content Coordinator
“Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator. I have hunted for body exfoliators for years. And have found they usually sit in two camps: supermarket-y or incredibly expensive-y. Then I discovered Nécessaire’s exfoliator. It’s full of good stuff, it works, it’s the right price and it ships to Australia. Is it also important that the Sandalwood one smells spectacular? You bet.”
Jess, Senior Brand Manager
“I feel like 2020 has been the year of the Lip Oil, and I’ve 100% jumped on the bandwagon. They’re more hydrating than a lipstick but less sticky than a lip gloss - the perfect combo. I’m too lazy to wear lipstick everyday but lip oils have the right amount of colour and you don’t need a mirror to reaply them, which is always a plus. I’m loving the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil and Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss, and I fully intend to get every. single. colour.”
Andrea, Ecommerce Manager
“I’m a big fan of Kosas Revealer Concealer followed by a tiny bit of Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi on the forehead and under the eyes. It really stops me from looking like a walking corpse which is all one can ever really ask for.”
Matt, Graphic Designer
“2020 has been the year of barrier repair for me! Ceramides have become my BFF and Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore has my skin plump, hydrated and healthy. It's a little on the pricey side, so I alternate it with Face Hero and Very Useful Face Cream - also superstars for nourishing and repairing! Ceramides are not going anywhere for me and while they are not a new discovery for some, they are definitely my best beauty discovery this year.”
Leonie, Marketing Director
“The Gua Sha has been the star of 2020 for me. Having had a double lung transplant in 2019, all the medication I’m on to keep my fresh breathers happy and healthy make my face perpetually puffy. This tool has been a saving grace, encouraging lymphatic drainage and keeping the puffiness at bay. I use it each morning with my Face Hero, so it also massages in all the nourishment (double win!).”
Ailish, Community Coordinator
“Chemical exfoliants! I’ve started using my Go-To Exfoliating Swipeys more consistently this year and have noticed a huge difference in the way my skin looks. It’s brighter! Less congested! And just all round happier! (Followed by SPF the next day and wowow who knew my skin could look so fresh.)”
Cynthia, Digital Marketing Coordinator
“My go to product is Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30 Sheer Tint from Ultraceuticals. I’m not big on heavy makeup, so this lightweight fast absorbing sun protection with antioxidants is perfect to give me a healthy glow.”
Susana, Quality Assurance Manager
“This year I’ve been yelling at myself to find a high-strength SPF that doesn’t feel thick or give me white cast. Then I discovered To Save Face SPF 50+. So effective, so light, so hydrating, and for that extra extra read all about it kinda glow, I like to use my Face Hero before it.”
Falisha, Community Coordinator
“My beauty find for 2020 has been vitamin a/retinol. Vitamin A is considered to be the gold standard of skin care because it is scientifically proven to not only reverse the signs of ageing but also shown to prevent them. This all-rounder also delivers a visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and smoother, plumper and glowing skin.… who doesn't want that?”
Jess, HR Manager
“During the middle of the year, as I had some extra time on my hands I got into painting my nails and trying (trying is the key word) to paint cute patterns on them. This helped brighten up my days in my little apartment! I really loved using Sienna, a non-toxic polish from Byron Bay. A great find and so many cute colours!”
Tara, Community Coordinator
“As a multitasker myself, I love a product that also does more than one thing! BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser not only gives my skin the perfect amount of coverage while still letting my freckles shine on through but it's also clean, super hydrating and SPF30+!”
