How To Choose Your Highlighter Shade

How To Choose Your Highlighter Shade

Your guide to getting the most flattering glow.

We’ve taken our love for astonishingly glowy skin to a whole new level with Ring Light. Loaded with skincare ingredients, our liquid highlighter is designed to mimic your best lighting. Always on.

But what is highlighter?

Entirely different from ‘90s body glitter, we promise.

Highlighter—whether powder, liquid, cream, or felt tip (no)—is designed to reflect light and illuminate the skin—placed across the face to mimic where good light would naturally hit. Beyond just making your skin look luminous and healthy, highlighter accentuates your facial structure and creates dimension.

What does highlighter do?

In short, highlighter is the easiest way to fake astonishingly dewy, healthy, luminous skin. While good skincare and an illuminating base does plenty of heavy lifting when it comes to glowy skin, think of highlighter as your finishing touch. Formulated with light-reflecting particles, it delivers instant glow that enhances the natural radiance of your skin.

How to choose your highlighter shade?

Just like blush, highlighter looks its best when it corresponds with your skin tone. A highlighter that complements your skin tone helps create a natural-looking glow; avoiding any ashiness or harsh lines.

Don’t know your skin tone? It’s the shade of your skin’s overall complexion, usually categorised as fair, light, medium, tan, or deep. Choosing a highlighter that complements your skin tone ensures a natural, radiant look.

For fair and light skin: a highlighter with a pearl or champagne will likely be your pick. A lighter shade like this helps to add a subtle glow without being too overpowering. Think: our Moonlight shade.

For medium and tan skin: something warm gold or peachy will look best for you. A shade like this will recreate the hue your skin tone would look in great lighting. Think: our Peachy shade.

For deep and dark skin: a warm bronze or copper tone is your best pick. These shades provide a deep, warm glow that complements your complexion, without a hint of ashiness. Think: our Golden shade.

For an even more natural looking glow, it can be best to match your skin’s undertone to the tones of your highlighter.

Cool undertones: go for silver, pearly shades.

Warm undertones: try warm-toned shimmers like gold, bronze, or rose gold.

Neutral undertones: since your skin has both cool and warm undertones both silver-y pearly shades and warm-toned shades should work for you. Lucky squid!
