An Expert’s Pregnancy Skincare Routine

Get Up And Go invites clever, fun, delightful members of our Go-To community to take us with them on their morning routine, sharing their go-to tips, products, and favourite pancake toppings as they go. Today, we’re getting up with skin expert and founder of The Parlour Room, Natalie Ferrari.

The Life Stuff

My name is Natalie and I am the owner and founder of The Parlour Room in Clovelly. What started with one singular location - TPR - back in 2012, now includes two salons, an online store and expert journal. We recently launched our second salon, SELF in the middle of 2020 which has been so exciting to watch grow. Up until two years ago I was very much involved in every facet of the business, including treating clients, but now I am more so focused on the day-to-day, operational side of things, making sure we’re continuing to serve our clients and provide them with a luxurious experience to relax and enjoy their favourite beauty treatments.

A typical morning for me changes all the time. Prior to lockdown I would get up and exercise, do my morning pilates at Fluidform and get a coffee from Clodeli before starting the work day; catching up with my team, responding to client enquiries and general salon management however at the moment with lockdown and going through my first trimester, things looks a LOT different. If I’m feeling up to it, I’ll try and go for a little walk or attempt some pilates, before checking-in with the staff to see how they’re going and help respond to client enquiries and organise any online orders.

I like to think I’m an early riser, and I do try (sometimes)... I’ll usually get up early to feed the cats and then go back to bed for a few hours. Does that count? Being pregnant has really thrown my day-to-day. Some days I can’t leave the couch because I'm feeling so nauseous but at a minimum, I try to get up and move my body, get some fresh air and cleanse my face.

I think the most important thing is to get up and go outdoors, move your body and take in some fresh air. I really enjoy walking down to the ocean, or going for a walk around Centennial park, breathing in the fresh air - it just makes everything better. Especially now where most of us are working from home and staring at a screen all day, it can really have such a positive impact on your day.”

The Beauty Stuff

“My skin type is normally on the dry side, with minimal pigmentation, however I have always been very cautious of keeping my face out of the sun so it’s not too bad. I tend to get hormonal breakouts on my chin around my period and find I also get a lot of those dehydration lines and a bit of flakiness as well. However during pregnancy that has gone all out the window and I have been getting a LOT of breakouts and in very random places like the middle of my nose, under my eye etc.

My current morning skincare routine is very minimal. I start with a double cleanse using Properly Clean, and then my Much Brighter Skin to help with pigmentation and protect against free radicals during the day, a face oil and then I use the Alpha-H SPF (a non-negotiable!) and Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops and finish with Go-To Lips! As this helps protect them from drying out as much. Oh and my TPR cuticle oil to nourish and hydrate the nails. If I’m going out, I’ll usually pop on the Transformazing sheet mask after I cleanse to make sure my skin is really nice and hydrated before I put on my makeup, sometimes going over with a cool face roller to help get rid of any puffiness.

As for my hair routine? At the moment… you don’t want to know! I’m in desperate need for the hairdressers to reopen as I’m sure everyone else is too. Typically I'm pretty low maintenance during the week, I’ll just brush in the morning and pull it into a low bun or pony, but if I have an event or I feel like making an effort to perk myself up, I’ll give myself some waves.

I prefer to keep things minimal when it comes to makeup. It should be used to enhance your features, not create new ones. I like to apply a very light coverage foundation first to smooth and even out the skin tone. I love the Chanel Les Beiges Eau De Tint, it gives a beautiful fresh finish and doesn’t feel like you're wearing a full face. I’ll then apply a bit of bronzer around the face and blush (Mecca Off-Duty Blush Stick) across my cheeks and eyes to give a nice warm glow and a hint of highlighter on the cheeks and corner of the eyes (it’s the one product I swear by to revive tired skin). Finishing with a tinted brow gel, mascara and lip balm.

If I need to race, I can be done in under 15 minutes, but if I’m being honest, typically I give myself closer to 45 minutes from start to finish if I need to wake up, do my skin care, makeup, get dressed and head out.”
