Face Hero is 10. She’s won awards, she’s a hall of famer, she’s a perennial bestseller, she’s the product I’m forever giving to friends and family, (and people who’ve never tried Go-To) (I know; weird), and she has over 45,000 five star reviews. She’s earned her cape.
It’s hard to imagine Go-To without Face Hero. And yet! She was actually our sixth product. She wasn’t quite ready for launch. Good things take time etc.
In my past life as a beauty editor, I’d loudly and persistently maintained that face oil was/is a must-use. Specifically, rosehip oil—something mum turned me onto. But rosehip oil on its own is a bit dicey. Without supporting antioxidants it can go rancid, and smell, and all its benefits disappear.
I felt we could do better.
We started with rosehip oil, but buriti oil ended up as the star. An anti-inflammatory, soothing, moisturising oil extracted from the fruit of the moriche palm, buriti reduces redness, roughness and calms upset skin. I nursed a quiet confidence (“hubris”) that Face Hero would make an impact, that people would really love her. When you launch a brand, you dream that just one of your products will make its way into the hearts and bathrooms of the people, giving genuine, reliable results and enjoyment for many, many years. Face Hero is this. Cos once you use it, you get it. It feels amazing, it calms flare-ups, sorts out cranky skin, and nourishes in a very genuine way.. If your skin is sad, or needs a hug, Face Hero is your girl.
I don’t know what my skin would be like if I hadn’t used Face Hero twice daily for the past ten years - and don’t want to know. There’s no trip, no season, no climate, no life stage, no post-laser-fire-skin she hasn’t been there for me. I remember hours after giving birth, right after that Pretty Intense first shower, applying Face Hero in a tiny hospital bathroom. It made me feel human again, after a mad, primal 24 hours.
