Plenty. In fact, the only thing these two really have in common is their iconic name.

Hi! We’re so glad you asked!

‘Cos you really don’t want to get these two confused. They really do do different things for your skin.

But let’s start way back at the beginning. And let you know exactly why we released another face oil 10 years after our bestseller, Face Hero (which continues to sell best—nothing’s changed there). We’ve heard from a lot of customers about their Face Hero FOMO, as well as reports of face oil terror among our oily, breakout-y friends.

So it was only natural we started to play around with a more targeted solution. One that could fight blemishes and make peace with your skin barrier. At the exact same time.

Clarifying Face Hero: our formidable new dry face oil that is clinically proven* to improve the appearance of breakouts and balance oily skin. Lovely.

So. The differences. There’s plenty. In fact, the only thing these two really have in common is their iconic name. The formulation, how it feels on the skin, how it sinks into the skin, where it sits in your routine, the anticipated results. That’s where these cousins - if you will - come apart. Let’s map it out together.

What do these oils actually do?

Face Hero can be thought of as your nourishing oil. Something to replenish, revive, and arm the skin (any skin!) with bucket loads of antioxidants

Clarifying Face Hero is best thought of as your treatment oil. Something specifically designed to address pimples, redness, and oiliness in blemish-prone skin types

And what’s in these oils?

Face Hero is formulated with 10 potent and purposefully selected plant and nut oils, that are going to penetrate deeply and quickly to help insure your face against fine lines, dark spots, dryness, and ageing inflammation. Bonus: mix a few drops into your foundation for a ludicrously glowy base.

Clarifying Face Hero is a dry oil (which refers to the way the product sits on the skin i.e. lightweight, non-greasy, no residue, fast-absorbing) formulated with 1% bakuchiol for its powerful antibacterial properties, tea tree oil for its antifungal benefits, vitamin F to promote skin barrier health and hydration, and holy basil to protect thou holy skin from thy environmental stressors. See? Pretty schmick.

How do you use them?

Face Hero sits towards the tail end of your skincare routine. As one of the thicker, more occlusive products in the line-up. Whether it is massaged in before or after your moisturiser depends entirely on the product you’re using. (We know! Confusing. So more on that here.)

Clarifying Face Hero should be applied directly after cleansing. The very first treatment product in your routine. Purely to ensure its blemish-busting habits and overall efficacy aren’t diluted with layers of serums stacked underneath. Both oils can be used morning and night. We encourage it, actually. But never together. Pretty please pick one or the other based on your skin needs.

When will I see results?

Face Hero will grant you (some) immediate results; it is a super speedy way to boost nourishment and glow. But as with any skincare product you’re going to see the best results from consistent, long term use. Keep at it.

Clarifying Face Hero is more of a slow burner. An oil you need to be super diligent with, if you want to revel in the same skin-clearing results as our clinical trial participants. Give it at least 8 weeks. But know that in just two weeks 90% of people reported an overall improvement in their skin**. So there are plenty of rewards along the way.

*Based on an 8 week clinical trial of 28 participants. (We gotta keep asterisk-ing this info. For legal reasons. Sorry.)
**Based on an 8 week consumer study of 30 participants. (At it again with this data stuff.)
