The Barrier-Loving, 5-Step Routine For Acne-Prone Skin

The Barrier-Loving, 5-Step Routine For Acne-Prone Skin

Skincare is such a joy.”

Meet Seyi, real Go-To customer and real-er legend, who knows what her skin needs (hydration) and why panthenol (“obsessed”) should be everyone’s favourite ingredient. When she’s not working as a behaviour support practitioner, she’s hiking with her family and thinking about gnocchi, naturally. Her go-to routine? A balancing, combo skin-friendly regimen that can be done with a toddler on your hip.

Describe Your Routine In A Few Words: Barrier loving and hydration focused

AM Routine:

  1. Rinse my face with water

  2. Spritz with Prep Step

  3. Much Plumper Skin

  4. Nifty Fifty OG

PM Routine:

  1. Double Cleanse (Fancy Face to breakdown SPF and makeup then Juicy Gel)

  2. Very Amazing Retinal (2-3 times a week)

  3. Face Hero

  4. Very Luxe Face Cream

  5. Lip Hero

*Once a week, usually on a Sunday evening, I also love to use The Repair Shop.

Skincare Advice: Keep it simple...No need to overcomplicate your skincare routine and use too many products all at once in the one routine.

Favourite Skincare Ingredient: Obsessed with panthenol (provitamin B5). Soothes irritation, acts as a humectant to draw in moisture and protects the skin barrier.

Skincare Sin: I often forget to re-apply my SPF throughout the day, but I'm getting better at this! Just have to ensure I pack it in my purse. Nifty Fifty Fluid has been great for re-application due to its thin consistency.

How Your Relationship With Skincare Has Changed: As someone with acne-prone skin I always thought I needed to use skincare that had to dry out the skin so it could rid of the pesky acne. Little did I realise this was compromising my barrier. Ever since Much Plumper Skin and The Repair Shop came along, I did my research on 'barrier support', tried the products and discovered my skin responded extremely well to being hydrated which, in turn, lessened my acne. Then the Very Amazing Retinal has saved the day in reducing my pigmentation! What a win.

So over the last two years the types of products I reach for have been so different to what I thought I needed to use. Skincare is such a joy now as I love seeing how hydrated and glowing my skin looks!

Where Do Your Skincare: Cleansing in the shower then rest of my skincare in front of my bathroom mirror (does it count as multitasking if I have a toddler constantly hanging off me while doing my routine?).

Why Do You Skincare: Skincare for me acts as a reset but also sets a positive intention for me. Whether it's to start the day or end the day, it's precious time that's secured just for me to consciously care for myself. The feel of the products on my skin, the smell, the appreciation of the packaging and the glow of my skin couldn't make me happier.
